Terms and Conditions
Last updated November 3, 2026
1. About these terms
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) apply to your use of tracepolicylimits.com (the “Site”) and to the policy limit trace, DMV VIN/tag, locate, asset search and related services (the “Services”) provided by Trace Policy Limits (“we”, “us”, “our”), located at 17105 Kenton Dr Ste 203C, Cornelius, NC 28031. By using the Site or ordering Services you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site or Services.
2. Eligible users and permitted purposes
The Services are offered only to attorneys, law firms and other legal professionals (“Clients”). By placing a request you represent that you are authorized to do so and that you have a legitimate legal purpose for the information, such as evaluating, pursuing or defending a legal claim.
You agree that you will not use the Services, or any information obtained from them, for employment screening, tenant screening, credit or insurance eligibility or underwriting, or any other purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, or for harassment, stalking or any unlawful purpose. We are not a consumer reporting agency, and our reports are not consumer reports.
3. Nature of the Services
- A policy limit trace seeks to identify the limits of an insurance policy associated with the subject or vehicle you identify. It does not determine whether a policy was in effect on a particular date of loss, nor does it verify that a specific vehicle or property was insured under the policy.
- We do not provide declarations pages or other official insurance documents.
- Some carriers or policy types cannot be searched. Commercial trucking traces are limited to for-hire motor carriers identifiable by USDOT number.
- We operate in accordance with applicable federal and state law and cannot obtain sensitive, protected or exact date-specific information.
- Guides, FAQs and other content on the Site are general information only. They are not legal advice, and Trace Policy Limits is not a law firm.
- Turnaround times are estimates and may vary by data source, state and volume. Our office is closed on weekends and holidays.
4. Placing requests
You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the information you provide. Incorrect or incomplete information may produce inaccurate results or no results. Requests may be submitted through the contact form or by email to [email protected]. We may decline or stop any request at our discretion, including where we believe the purpose is improper or where law prohibits the search.
5. Fees and payment
Fees are quoted or confirmed before work begins and are based on the Services requested and the results of the search. Reports are released once the request has been paid in full, unless we have agreed otherwise in writing for a volume arrangement. Third-party data costs (for example, state DMV fees) may apply. Additional fees may apply for add-on services or additional searches that you authorize.
6. Refunds and disputes
Because Services involve research performed on your behalf, charges are generally non-refundable once work has been performed. If you have a concern about a result, contact us at [email protected] within a reasonable time and we will work with you in good faith to resolve it.
7. No warranty; reliance
The Services and all reports are provided “as is” and “as available”. We make no warranties or guarantees, express or implied, regarding accuracy, completeness, timeliness or fitness for a particular purpose. Information we provide should not be relied on solely for any settlement, litigation or other decision. You are responsible for independently verifying information through formal channels, including discovery, before relying on it.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Site or Services. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Services will not exceed the fees you paid for the specific request giving rise to the claim.
9. Confidentiality and data use
We treat Client requests and reports as confidential and use them only to deliver the Services, operate our business and meet legal obligations. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information collected through the Site. You agree to handle reports confidentially and in compliance with applicable law.
10. Acceptable use of the Site
You agree not to interfere with the Site, attempt unauthorized access, scrape or copy it in bulk, submit malicious code, or use the contact form to send spam or unlawful content. Please do not submit Social Security numbers, financial account numbers or medical information through the Site.
11. Intellectual property
The Site, its content, logo and design are owned by us or used with permission and are protected by intellectual property laws. Reports delivered to you may be used for your legitimate legal purposes but may not be resold or published.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, losses and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of any information obtained through the Services.
13. Third-party services
The Site may embed third-party content (such as Google Maps on the Contact page). Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
14. Changes to the Site and Terms
We may update the Site, Services or these Terms at any time. The “last updated” date above shows when the Terms last changed. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in North Carolina, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
